PROJAZZ Presents: ALEXANDER [livestream]

Thursday 29 April 2021 2021

With the release of his debut album “Methods To Madness” a new phase begins for the Rotterdam pianist, composer and producer Alexander van Popta (1987). For the album, ALEXANDER teamed up with bassist Thomas Pol, drummer Jamie Peet and guitarist Jelle Roozenburg. The influence of jazz, with the accompanying improvisation character, is clearly present, but in terms of sound and production an alternative approach has been chosen. “Music is often characterized as a combination of melody, harmony and rhythm, but before we recognize those ingredients, we simply hear a sound. I hope that when someone puts on the album, he or she experiences something based on both the songs and the isolated sounds, ”said the Rotterdammer. Expect live spontaneity, adventure and collective improvisation. The quartet likes to venture into unknown territory, which means that the compositions constantly take on new forms.
