FILM: THE SOUND OF BELGIUM

The Sound of Belgium tells the rich, untold story about the Flemmish electronic dance scene. Starting with the first signs of 'nightlife' in the early 20's, and proceeding to discuss the emergence of the Acid scene, as well as today's nightlife. The Sound of Belgium is aimed at the emergence of the celebrated dance music of Holland's southern neighbours. The very start: the musical enjoyment on the fairs and markets that already existed before the World War. The late 40's: the infamous dancing-afternoons with Decap-organs. The golden days of the 'Popcorn', where men could dance with other men for the first time in the free-spirited sixties. And then: the spark that commenced because of New Beat, causing a rapid dispersion of Belgian dance music. The strong roots made it possible for new electronic dance equivalents to emerge as well. This movie is a nostalgic trip throughout Belgium's dance history, and therefore throughout the rest of the world. A movie for those people that spin their records on 33 instead of 45 rpm's.
