EUROPALIA: LUCIAN BAN & MAT MANERI – OEDIPE REDUX / ALEX SIMU QUINTET – ECHOES OF ENESCU

Friday 29 November 2019 2019

Presented by Pro Jazz and takes place in the Koorenhuis (Prinsegracht 27)

In collaboration with Europalia, the work of the most important Romanian classical composer of the 20th century is put into an exciting jazz jacket.
The Alex Simu Quintet reflects in a mix of its own compositions and the classical work of Enescu on the past, present and future of Bucharest, the hometown of clarinetist and Golden Calf winner Alex Simu.

The Grammy-nominated American violinist Mat Maneri and the acclaimed Romanian pianist Lucian Ban made a new arrangement of the magnum opus of George Enescu: the opera Oedipe. They play with a top line-up, including percussionist Tom Rainey, one of the most requested session musicians in New York, and the masterful vocalists Jen Shyu and Theo Bleckmann.
