In June 1969, police raided the Stonewall Inn, a gay bar in Greenwich Village, New York, using excessive force. Patrons resisted the eviction, sparking six days of riots. This protest marked a turning point for the global LGBTQ+ rights movement and Pride Month.
Although much has changed in the (nearly) sixty years since then, much change is still needed. Violence is on the rise, media outlets are being curtailed, and human rights are under pressure.
With that history in mind, we are launching Stonewall: a new festival for The Hague where we celebrate queer joy, honor everyone who fought for this cause, and discuss the future.
