Winternachten Festival 2021 [Livestream]

Wednesday 13 January 2021 2021

Winternachten International Literature Festival The Hague presents its 26th edition in the form of an online ‘slow festival’. Even though the format is different, Winternachten, as always, gives the social and cultural debate a strong boost via language and literature. What’s more, they offer a literary detox in the cold January days.

From Wednesday 13 to Sunday 17 January, an online program will be carefully put together every evening and broadcast live. There is one online program to attend every day. You can determine the ticket price yourself. There is a choice of three ticket prices: € 5, € 10 or € 15. There is also the option to donate money, which doubles the ticket price. The complete festival program and tickets can be found via this link.

Wednesday January 13 (20:30-21:45): Opening night: It’s up to us & pen award

‘It’s up to us’ as a festival theme
The central question for this time is how we come together as a society. We are regularly called upon to show solidarity with each other. We have to join forces; do it together. But which together are we talking about? How inclusive is this ‘us’? Questions that put both the Black Lives Matter and the climate movement on the agenda, as well as the corona crisis, make it clear that ‘us’ is not an easy matter. And is it actually up to us? The Winternachten festival 2021 is therefore given the motto ‘It’s ours’, borrowed from writer Eva Meijer, spring 2020, in the radio program Kunststof.

“ It has always amazed me how we, humans, act and submit everything on earth to our will. “
