Marquee is a road trip – Marc Jansen takes you around in his sleek car. Sometimes he opens the roof, occasionally the windshield wipers are in their highest position. The views are expansive, they change after every turn but flow organically into each other. You speed with him on highways and dikes, through cities and polders, and at every gas station, he treats you to coffee.
With the occasional wink in the gleaming rearview mirror – the past remains Marquee’s mentor – Marc primarily keeps his eyes on the road ahead. All his influences are accompanied by a contemporary flair and a modern sound. He playfully flirts with musical predecessors like J.J. Cale and Mac deMarco, but skillfully molds each element to his own style. Unexpected combinations that you never thought would work turn out surprisingly delightful: from country to power pop and everything in between. The music wraps itself like a perfectly fitting cloak around Marquee’s intimate lyrics, engaging in a conversation with you in the passenger seat.
