HEROES: STEELEYE SPAN

Lovers of traditional british folkrock and celtic rock be aware: because we’re bringing some pioneers to Paard! Together with bands like Fairport Convention Steeleye Span was one of the driving forces behind the british folkrevival in the 70’s and is one most influencial bands of this genre.

Now, 50 years later, Steeleye Span celebrates thismilestone with a tour that shows that the band is just as creative and vital as they’ve ever been. Meanwhile the band consists of seven heroes and is lead by folk-icon Maddy Prior.

Several of the albums Steeleye Span released are considered musical monuments with timeless hits, think of records like ‘All Around My Hat’. Nowadays the band is still incredibly popular. By regularly introducing new musicians with their own style, the pioneers are taking the folk genre to far into the 21st century.

Recently Jessie May Smart (a young highly talented violinist) joined the band. And for the album ‘Wintersmith’ they collaborated with english bestselling author Sir Terry Pratchet, of which his magical fantasy stories were inspiration for new songs.
