Anna von Hausswolff is a Swedish singer, pianist, organist and songwriter. In her early life she was influenced by the music of Tsjaikovski, which was played a lot in her house by her parents. The compositions of Von Hausswolff are known for their dark sounds full of drones of heave organs. Dead Magic, Anna von Hausswolff’s fourth album, was released in 2017 and she describes it as ‘’ a dark crystal that encapsulates the most intimate and extreme human passions, born and grown in a time now passed, dormant, but forever imprinted in grooves of vinyl’’.

The majority of recordings for the album Dead Magic were done on the 20th century organ at Copenhagen’s Marmorkirken, “the Marble Church”, one of the largest churches in Scandinavia. The production of Dead Magic was entrusted to the multifaceted Randall Dunn, known for collaborating with iconic bands such as Sunn O))), Earth and Wolves in the Throne Room.

Anna’s compositions are expressions of her joy and anger and they are hard to put into one frame. They fall within the frame of post rock, gothic soundscapes, rock, doom metal, modern classic and church music. All these styles keep each other in balance and her music can remind you of band like Pink Floyd, Nico, Diamanda Galas, Kate Bush and even Dead Can Dance.

“ Een enkel moment gaat haar stem zo de hoogte in dat je hoofd explodeert, de wereld tijdelijk stil lijkt te staan, om uiteindelijk te veranderen in een duistere plek vol vreemde fantasiebeesten. “
