SIOEN plays ‘PAUL SIMON’s GRACELAND’

Paul Simon made history in 1986 with his legendary album Graceland, in which he created a unique sound full of African rhythms with a selection of South African musicians. That atmosphere and sound are simply matched by singer-songwriter Sioen, who presents a rock-solid interpretation of the original album with his live concert “Sioen plays Graceland”.

Sioen traveled to Soweto in 2007 for Oxfam, looking for local musical talent. The result: an overwhelming intercultural blend of styles and rhythms; exactly what Paul Simon had in mind more than thirty years ago with his imaginative project, which gave African music a face worldwide.

Sioen’s Graceland revival is a worthy tribute to the qualities of Paul Simon. The same goes for the collection of talent that he brought together for this, including backing vocals from Soweto and percussionist N’Faly Kouyaté from Guinea, known from the Afro Celt Sound System. Now on tour through the Netherlands with the great songs of Graceland, such as “You can call me All”, “Diamonds on the soles of her shoes” and “Under African skies”. Graceland has been reborn in an impressive way!
