THE COMMON LINNETS

Thursday 10 December 2015 2015

Last year proved a sensational year for The Common Linnets and 2015 looks set to be even better. In 2014 the band stole people’s hearts at the Eurovision Song Contest in Copenhagen. With their haunting, evocative song Calm After The Storm they enchanted millions of viewers, leaving many wanting to discover more about them. And more is what they got; backed by an entire band, the five-piece charmed clubs throughout Europe with their intimate live shows. “It was fantastic to show people we’re about so much more than just a one-off Eurovision song”, says singer Ilse DeLange.

DeLange is a gifted singer-songwriter who needs little introduction among fans of country and Americana music. She founded The Common Linnets while looking to explore new, rootsy musical avenues. For the established solo-artist it’s a nice change of pace. Literally. “Playing solo gigs, I’d have to entertain the audience all on my own. With The Common Linnets I can sometimes step back and enjoy the other guys singing.” The ‘other guys’ are the talented American singer/songwriters Jake Etheridge, Matthew Crosby and Rob Crosby, in addition to JB Meijers, a Dutch singer/songwriter and Ilse’s co-producer for the debut album.
