Musical sunshower with a message

Sunday 17 May 2026

Ratboys opens its new album, Singin’ to an Empty Chair, with an invitation. “What’s it gonna take to open up this time?” vocalist Julia Steiner sings, launching an 11-song conversation that stands as Ratboys’ most introspective and emotionally driven work yet. May 17, you’ll see the formation at PAARD!

Before long, the first song of the album swells into the sort of musical sunshower that’s become Ratboys’ specialty, underscoring the high stakes across the band’s sixth album and how gracefully the four-piece navigates them. When Steiner asks the question on “Open Up,” it’s clear she really means it.

Support: Snow Coats

Snow Coats is an Arnhem-based indie rock band with influences from emo and folk. In recent years, the band has toured the Netherlands, Europe, and the United Kingdom, playing alongside acts such as Pinegrove, Ratboys, Coach Party, and Wednesday. In 2020, Snow Coats signed with the British label Alcopop! Records. The album, *If it wasn’t me, I would’ve called it funny*, was released in September 2022 and was recorded during the Covid-19 lockdowns with producer Joe Reinhart (Beach Bunny, Hop Along, Modern Baseball). The album was described by American music platform STEREOGUM as “ridiculously catchy guitar-pop.” Following the release of their split EP with Bony Macaroni in 2023, the band returned to the studio to work on a new indie rock album with Midwest emo influences, expected in 2026.
