PROJAZZ JOHN ABERCROMBIE TRIBUTE

Wednesday 30 March 2022 2022

The John Abercrombie Tribute is a project from three musicians (Ed Verhoef, Hein van de Geyn and  Adam Nussbaum) who each had a special bond with the American guitarist/composer John Abercrombie, who died in August 2017. John was a very creative composer when it came to catchy jazz, but he liked to play standard jazz just as much and also loved to improvised freely. If you went to a show of John you knew for sure that it was fun and packed with dry humor. During this tribute night you will be taken with the intuitive, melodic and profound harmonies that John was known for. Together with his contemplative, sensitive and, as he described it himself, ‘not in your face’ compositions. On March 30, 2022 you can see The John Abercrombie Tribute live in PAARD!

The three musicians each had a special bond ,in their own way, with John Abercrombie. Adam Nussbaum, John’s favorite drummers,  has been part of several bands and recording sessions for years, including the Nuttree Project (John Abercrombie, Adam Nussbaum, Jerry Bergonzie & Gary Versace) and the group John Abercrombie, Adam Nussbaum & Dan Wall. John was an important source of inspiration and ‘director’ during his studies at the conservatory for Ed Verhoeff . It was during the same period that Ed was asked by Hein to be part of the ‘European’ Baseline as a shadow band. Double bassist Hein van de Geyn was part of the John Abercrombie trio during his stay in the USA. The other way around, John was part of Vander Geijn’s own trio ‘Baseline’, which they also recorded three albums with.

This program is in collaboration with PROJAZZ.
