PROJAZZ: DUO ILJA REIJNGOUD & ED VERHOEFF [livestream]

Wednesday 31 March 2021 2021

Trombonist Ilja Reijngoud and guitarist Ed Verhoeff have known each other for a long time. They played together in the band Nueva Manteca, with the duo Izaline Calister & Ed Verhoeff and on each other’s CDs. Because they share a broad musical interest, they started to form a duo. With this duo, which can be expanded with special guests, they unleash a new sound that transcends traditional musical styles. Keywords are interaction, freedom and fun. The lines between trombone and guitar are multiplied explosively by the use of electronics. This creates Soundscapes and free improvisation in addition to lyricism and interactive lines: The Art of Two.

This livestream is presented in collaboration with ProJazz. Signing up for the livestream is free and can be done via the black button. There will be a donation option during the livestream.

THE DUO

Ilja Reijngoud has played in many sections and groups, from hard bop and big band, to latin and modern jazz. In the Art of Two his versatility and enormous skills on the trombone come to its fullest. Ilja has eight albums under her own name.

Ed Verhoeff has played in many line-ups, from duo to Latin quintet and has played a lot in his own groups from pop / rock to classical. This always based on his love for jazz music. Ed released eight albums as a band and / or co-leader.

SUN MI HONG

South Korean drummer and composer Sun-Mi Hong is one of the most outstanding talents in the contemporary jazz scene. She took her inspiration from the post-bop of the sixties and mixes this free jazz with the impressionism of Maurice Ravel. In April 2020 her second album “A Self-Strewn Portrait” was released on the controversial Zennez Records.

MARGREET SJOERDSMA

In recent years, Margriet Sjoerdsma has conquered the Netherlands with A Tribute to Eva Cassidy. She played for sold-out venues including North Sea Jazz Festival and a packed Concertgebouw. In 2020 Margriet took a new musical path with Odelion. She returned to first thing she loves to do: making her own songs. The songs came to life in Odelien, a cottage in Norway.
