Anneke van Giersbergen
Anneke van Giersbergen (1973) broke through in 1995 as the singer of progressive rock and metal formation The Gathering and the hit single Strange Machines, after which performances at major festivals such as Pinkpop and worldwide foreign tours followed. After her departure from The Gathering in 2007, she built on a successful solo career with spherical melodic songs. Since 2016 she has been able to express her love for the ‘harder’ work in her progressive metal band VUUR. “I get a lot of inspiration from Kate Bush in that regard. She couldn’t be captured in a style, I don’t want to impose that restriction on myself either,” explains Van Giersbergen.
Kate Bush
With her debut single Wuthering Heights, a nineteen-year-old Kate Bush had a huge hit in 1978. Moreover, with her eclectic and experimental style and adventurous lyrics, she proved to be a trendsetter and a great example for a new generation of artists. Van Giersbergen: “That intrigues me about her. She knows how to bind a large audience to her without making concessions.”
