MEAU

Saturday 30 November 2024 2024

Dutch-language indie pop; a touch of synths, warm sounds, dreamy choruses, & honest lyrics. MEAU, the solo project of singer, songwriter and producer Meau Hewitt, makes small, pure songs about everyday topics such as love, personal development and loneliness. Her warm voice and dreamy choruses land where acoustic instruments and electronic sounds meet. Some of Meau’s big inspirations include Eefje de Visser, Jeremy Zucker and Holly Humberstone. On Saturday, November 30, 2024 at 2:30 p.m., MEAU will perform an additional show in PAARD!

Following the release of her debut EP ‘Kalmte’, Meau released her personal single ‘Dat Heb Jij Gedaan’ in September 2021. This was awarded as a 3FM Megahit, Qmusic Alarm Disc and Radio 2 TopSong and is also at a high position in the charts. In January 2022 MEAU may perform at Noorderslag and from March 2022 she will start her sold-out club tour during which she, together with her band, will visit 7 Dutch venues. In the fall of 2021 and spring of 2022, she serves as a support act for the tours of Blanks and Suzan & Freek (including 2 times the Ziggo Dome) through the Netherlands and Belgium with a total of 30,000 visitors.

Meau has been writing and making music since childhood. As a child she took singing and piano lessons and participated in the Children for Children choir for 3 years. In the following years, she had the opportunity to perform in Babette Labeij’s choir for many great performances at The Passion, All You Need Is Love, and several finals of The Voice of Holland, among others. After high school, Meau attended the preliminary training of the pop department of the Conservatory of Amsterdam. This period she started focusing on writing Dutch lyrics; inspired by artists such as Eefje de Visser and Spinvis. Nowadays, Meau lives in Utrecht where she just completed the pop/rock course at the Herman Brood Academy. In recent years she has started producing more and searching for the right sound for her music.

Support: Jet van der Steen

The first four words of her best-known song Dance On The Knife encapsulate the theme of jet van der steen’s brand new EP: Everything Comes, Everything Goes . Everything can come at you quickly in life and leave you just as quickly as people, experiences and memories of them. The trick is to hold your ground in the midst of it all. The search for this balance is at the heart of her EP, which will be released on 22 November.

During the process of growing up, Jet is often under the impression that she can always do and solve everything on her own, but in her new songs, she takes us into the realisation that sometimes it is a bit harder than she thought. With her music, she tells the story of growing up where Jet takes risks, gives her past a place and sometimes feels alone.
