The multicultural band blends all kinds of music together. From Nigerian afro beats, to mbalax from Senegal, to soukous from Congo. There are no borders, no passports needed. From the moment Mdungu hits the first note, the music is all there is. The nine musicians play their music with such intense energy and joy, the audience has no choice but to get in contact with its inner African king or queen and enjoy the show.
Mdungu’s debut album “Afro What!?” came out in may 2009. Producer and guitarist Justin Adams, known as producer of the band Tinariwen and as a guitarist in his band Soul Science and Robert Plants Strange Sensation, mixed the album.
“Afro What!?” was picked as the best Worldmusic album of 2009 produced in The Netherlands, by Mixedworldmusic.com. The second album of Mdungu is expected in October 2011.
