LQRQ

Friday 10 September 2021 2021

LQRQ rose from the ashes of Cairo Liberation Front with ripping guitars and Arabic tone loaders. Yannick Verhoeven and Joep Schmitz (Cairo Liberation Front) join forces for this new project with Dutch-Iraqi punk singer Bagdaddy and singer/guitarist N.R. Safi (The Myrrors & Naujawanan Baidar). Together they create a soundscape of fiery electronic beats, psychedelic cross-cultural punk with a good dose of Arabic and Persian folk.

Cairo Liberation Front members Yannick Verhoeven and Joep Schmitz are pioneers in the Eurabia genre, creating enticing interplay of Western European and Middle Eastern artists.

Bagdaddy was born in Baghdad and grew up in the Netherlands and is certainly no stranger to the music scene. In 2017 she participated in Popronde and she is also label boss of her own ‘mid-finger-movement’ Bagdaddy Records. She’s also a booker at ‘t Stroomhuis.

The half-Afghan N.R Safi from Arizona has never set foot in Afghanistan, but Afghan music and melodies have always played in his head. After a period in his psych band The Myrrors, he started his solo project Naujawanan Baidar, armed with his grandfather’s cassettes.
