JOE GIDEON

Tuesday 3 March 2020 2020

Sing and songwriter Joe Gideon is a master of powerful, pitchy, post-financial crisis English blues. Joe met artist Jim Sclavunos of the Bad Seeds whilst being on tour with Joe Gideon & The Shark. He invited Jim to contribute drums to his solo EP Versa Vice, released in 2016. The album received elicited raves from blogs and online press and so the men decided to team up with musician Gris-De-Lin and create an album under the Clouds Hill Label, set for release at the end of January. The listener can look forward to Joe’s ruminations on, amongst other things, time travel, primordial bliss and reptile people. On March 3rd he will perform the album together with the two musicians in Paardcafé.

Joe Gideon first came to wider attention with his band Bikini Attol in 2003. They released two albums, after which Joe decided to hone his craft as a songwriter and lyricist and formed Joe Gideon & The Shark, a two-piece band with his sister Viva. The duo brought out two albums and toured with Seasick Steve and Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds to packed venues across the UK. In 2012 Joe and Viva decided to part ways.

“ Somehow they’ve alchemised an epic album from the hypnotic voodoo blues of The Gun Club, the shamanic gabbling of Patti Smith and some damn good gags. “
