The band Hiigo, from Zwolle, was founded on January 1, 2021, when singer and guitarist Hans van de Werf wanted to perform on stage not as a solo artist, but together with fellow musicians. Alongside guitarist Dion van der Geest, bassist Aart de Gier, keyboardist Peter Terluin, and drummer Koen Gardebroek, their debut single Laat Me Los was released in May of that year.
After their own releases Dichterbij, Waar Het Valt Of Staat, and Evenwicht, Hiigo broke through with Tankstation. The song received airplay on NPO Radio 2, became a TopSong, and reached the number one spot in the Verrukkelijke 15. 3FM also picked up the track, leading to a number one position in the Verlanglijst and a performance at Het Glazen Huis.
From that moment on, things moved fast: in 2024, Hiigo played twenty shows, including festivals and opening acts for Krezip, I.O.S., and Wies. Tankstation appeared on the EP Thuis, produced by Rob Peters (Bløf, Typhoon), who also produced their debut album Leven In De Leegte. The single Alles Wat Ik Zoek once again became a TopSong and landed on the playlists of 3FM and Radio 2. Hiigo was named 3FM Serious Talent and nominated for a 3FM Award for Best Newcomer.
After a sold-out club tour and a busy festival summer including Concert at Sea and Dauwpop, Hiigo announced their biggest headline show yet: February 2026 in a sold-out Pandorazaal at TivoliVredenburg. That same week, the single Waar Ik Ben was released as a preview of the album set to follow in autumn
