Friday 11 September 2020 2020

The Touareg group Kel Assouf has one leg in the desert and the other in Europe. Dive in and you hear solid rock a la Led Zeppelin, Cream and Tinariwen, and intoxicating North African melodies rhythms, but also an almost elusive passion and heartbreak. Live you will see a power trio that radiates musicality and fun. You can see them in PAARD on 11 September.

This concert is part of the third edition of the Gnawafestival for North African music and culture. A collaboration between Multicultureel Jongerengeluid, Het Nationale Theater, Korzo, Zuiderstrandtheater and PAARD. Last year it featured Bombino, Hamid El Kasri and Nass El Ghiwane. The line-up for the 2020 edition will be announced soon!

In 2006 this group formed around Anana Harouana, after he was expelled from his home country. Kel Assouf is desert rock with a message, one that values anti-discrimination and the Touareg culture. In 2019, the magnificent album ‘Black Tenere’ was released, which received four out of five stars from the British magazine Mojo: ‘A power trio with rock guitar firmly in the spotlight… A varied, mature an inspired result’.

“ The current Kel Assouf line-up is in effect a power trio in the Hendrix/Cream lineage “
