Ochoa was born on June 22, 1946, in Loma de la Avispa in eastern Cuba. He began playing guitar at a young age and grew into an authentic performer of son, bolero and guaracha. Throughout a career spanning more than six decades, he has collaborated with artists such as Ry Cooder and Toumani Diabaté and has received numerous awards, including a Latin Grammy and a Grammy Award.
