BLUE ROSE CODE & PITOU

Thursday 15 November 2018 2018

On this night, two talented Dutch singer-songwriters are on stage at Paard. You can also describe the man behind Blue Rose Code, Ross Wilson, as a musical traveler and a chameleon. He knows how to adjust to a situation because of his rich musical talent, but also how to give every room a different atmosphere. His mesmerizing voice let’s everyone stand still for a moment and be quiet, just to listen for a while. Not only Blue Rose Code will perform this night, but you can see Pitou from Amsterdam too. She finds a way to your heart with her melacholic folksongs and enchanting voice, inspired by the melodies of Joni Mitchell, such as the sadness of Sparklehorse and the choires of Le Mystere des Voix Bulgares. On the 15th of november these amazing artists can be seen, here at Paard.

The Scottish Ross Wilson spend his youth in East-London and moved to South-England later, to be closer to the sea. When he came home he realised an important thing: home really is where the heart is. Ross is a traveller as a musician as well, and you will hear that on his last album ‘The Water Of Leith’. There are twelve songs about different themes like love, loss, traveling, home, accepting the past and welcoming the future, brought with folk, jazz, soul and pop influences. And of course his hallmark: that eclectic sound he has, which is why he is compared to artists like John Martyn, Van Morisson and Tom Waits.

Pitou’s beautiful debut EP from 2016 was named by Beehype as one of the best releases of the year.  In her songs she uses her love for classical choral music and she lets multi-voice vocals flutter through each other. Pitou was one of the first 50 artists invited to The Great Escape in Brighton, played at Celtic Connections in Glasgow, and is now working internationally. The big British newspaper ‘The Independent’ declared her one of the ‘Ones to watch in 2018’. 3voor12 named her one of the talents for 2018, and placed her in the top 3 of Noorderslag’s best shows.
