BIG SPECIAL

Genre-transcending punk

Monday 9 September 2024 2024

BIG SPECIAL is about despair, struggle and a Britain in decline, where pride is found in the darkest moments and the class struggle is always down. They are songs of hope and despair that channel the voice you hear when you look in the mirror and see your true self – fight songs for a world gone wrong. Their live performances are a stunning combination of punk, hip-hop, pounding drums, phenomenal vocals, spoken word and genre-transcending music. All this together makes for an exciting live experience. Sniester and PAARD have joined forces for this show. On September 9, this duo will be in the Kleine Zaal!

For BIG SPECIAL – Joe Hicklin (vocals) and Callum Moloney (drums) – their sound comes from vital, frustrated young working-class voices that are not always heard on the scale they deserve. It’s a frustration that emerges through a voice that is at times rough and raw, but at other times sensitive, desperate and soulful. Hicklin’s fiery voice ranges from profound punk cries and jagged spoken word to elevated soul and back again, taken from their predecessors, crushed under the weight of history and re-adapted for a new generation. It is intense, raw and angry at a world without options, the thinning of common understanding between England’s social classes, the frustration with repeating cycles and the feeling of watching your own life unfold from the outside.

Support: Mye_Taai

Mye_Taai are a rave club punk duo+1. Delivering a bracing dose of reality with words, beats, poetry powered by grim basement club tunes.

They tell the story through dialogues, rants and commentary filled with embittered observations about politics, injustice, the real working life of today of today, capitalism, society, the art/music culture  and all the subjects discussed at the bar or in a public The Hague coffee house with mordacity and a right laugh.

Observations of real talk with bits of their own.
