Trumpet player Ambrose Akinmusire is constantly on the lookout for the boundaries of jazz music, only to gradually shift it. You can hear this urge to innovate in his playing style, in which you hear hip hop, modern classical, avant-garde and ghosts. Akinmusire studied at the prestigious Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz, where he was taught by Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter and Terence Blanchard. He won the International Jazz Competition, where a jury from, among others, Quincy Jones, Herb Alpert and Roy Hargrove chose him as the winner.

Akinmusire debuted on Blue Note Records with ‘When the Heart Emerges Glistening’, after which comparisons with the great masters were already made. He continued his own course, with all well-received records. His most recent work ‘Origami Harvest’ is praised for the blurring of the boundaries between jazz and hip hop. The album is full of spoken word and raps, by MC Kool A.D. “For jazz lovers who want to be challenged and musically surprised, Ambrose Akinmusire is the man.” said Writteninmusic.

“ Clearly something very special and personal is at work here, a vision of jazz that's bigger than camps, broader and more intellectually restless than blowing sessions “
