Afrovibes brings African theater, dance and music talent to the Netherlands for the 15th edition

Afrovibes festival brings young pioneers and established talent in theatre, dance, music and design from Africa to The Netherlands for the 15th edition. The festival is from the 4th til 14th of October in The Netherlands in Amsterdam, Utrecht, Rotterdam and The Hague with current and innovative theatre- and dance performances, music and movies from the biggest cultural hotspots in Africa. On October 11th you’ll see performances of African guitarist Bongeziwe Mabandla and the dance project Symphony of Now to PAARD.

The theme of the Afrovibes Festival is ‘Speak Truth to Power‘. About truth, illusion, fake news and reality. In conclusion: what is true and what is the artists view on this?

Bongeziwe Mabandla
Bongeziwe Mabandla is an Afro-folk singer and guitarist from South-Africa. In 2012 he brought out his debute album Umlilo and quickly became the new face of Afro-folk. He brings a unique sounds in which he mixes Xhosa lyrics with traditional music and folk. The past years he toured internationally and performed at different international festivals like Primavera Sound in Barcelona and the Japanese Sukiyaki Meets the World Festival.

Symphony of Now
The performance Symphony of Now is a blend between different European and African musical influences and focuses on the experience of the body. They bring the crowd into a hypnotising trance with the music and dancers. This performance is an exchange project between dancers and choreographers of Batalo East and DOX.
