AARON PARKS & LITTLE BIG @Koorenhuis

In cooperation with ProJazz

Friday 8 November 2019 8368

This concert is presented by Pro Jazz and takes place in Het Koorenhuis, Prinsegracht 27, 2512 EW Den Haag

The Amercian pianist and composer Aaron Parks (1983) likes to stretch the boundaries of jazz and flirts frequently with indie and hip hop. Parks made a great impression with Invisible Cinema. The BBC praised the album, they said it’s one of the best albums of the year and JazzTimes brought him in as a ‘new visionary’.

Little Big, his new band, can be seen as a follow-up to Invisible Cinema, where again the emphasis is on catchy, narrative songs full of melody and contemporary rhythms. The band members not only bring their experience from jazz and improvisation music, but also from electronics, R&B, alternative pop and country.

Aaron Parks, who has also recorded with Christian Scott, Kendrick Scott, Ambrose Akinmusire, and Kurt Rosenwinkel, was an integral part of the James Farm Quartet with Joshua Redman, Matt Penman, and Eric Harland. Find the Way, his sophomore label date for ECM, was issued in late spring of 2017. It featured bassist Ben Street and drummer Billy Hart in the rhythm section and was inspired in part by the music of Alice Coltrane and Shirley Horn; both of whom prioritized space and subtlety in composition and improvisation.
