Modern jazz with influences from hip hop and soul

Sunday 15 November 2026

Kobe-born and Brooklyn-based trumpeter Takuya Kuroda is known for his unique blend of jazz, funk, post bop and neo soul. With his warm, soulful sound and strong focus on groove, he effortlessly moves between traditional jazz and contemporary influences from hip hop and R&B. His music evokes artists like Herbie Hancock and Kamasi Washington, while remaining unmistakably his own.

With his eighth album Everyday, Kuroda shows how he has been working on his musical vision every single day for nearly thirty years. The result is an energetic and rhythmic record in which live instrumentation and modern production blend seamlessly. His playing on trumpet, synthesizer and Rhodes is virtuosic and melodic, with a strong emphasis on singable themes and danceable grooves.
