This is definitely Shearwater’s loudest record; it’s easy to imagine these songs roaring from the stage. But it’s also, strangely, their most beautiful one. But their secret weapon is film composer and percussionist Brian Reitzell, who wrote and recorded scores for The Virgin Suicides, Lost in Translation, The Bling Ring, and NBC’s Hannibal. The live band will include Jamie Stewart (of Xiu Xiu), Lucas Oswald, Josh Halpern, and Emily Lee.

The band, named after a the bird, started with only two members, Jonathan Meiburg and Will Sheff, from the band Okkervil River. They started in 2000 with just the two to write softer, more melodic songs, which were not suitable for Okkervil River. They released their debut album in 2001, called “The Dissolving Room”.

Later the band enlarged into a five-piece band and brought out among other albums like “Smoke” (2008) and “Animal Joy” (2012). The sense of melody, the skill of the musicians and the uniqueness of the atmosphere are simply undeniable.
