In July & August, Paard van Troje and Grote Markt will present a film & music program with the highest level of rock ‘n roll. This free program is on the new beach location of the Grote Markt called “Strandpaviljoen ZUID” (South beach in Scheveningen). Classics and brand new music documentaries that every music lover should see! When the movie is finished, music will prolong the evening till dawn.
BIG FUN IN THE BIG TOWN
Documentary about the New York rap scene of the first hour: an almost shy 18 year old LL Cool J, Grandmaster Flash, Run DMC and The Last Poets.
In 1986 Hiphop was still in its early stages. Dutch VPRO filmmaker Bram van Splunteren got fascinated by this phenomenon and crabbed his camera and left for New York City to record this new music scene. He came into contact with youngsters who were embarking on new paths, stepping away from the existing, musical traditions. These guys found a new approach and were about to change the music scene. Big Fun in the Big Town shows you how these guys were able to put the rapscene, including big afro’s, large glasses and oversized pants, on the map.

Public transportation: Take tram 12 or bus 22 towards Duindorp/Markenseplein and get off at the final stop (also named Duindorp/Markenseplein).
For navigational systems: use Markenseplein as your destination. There is plenty of parking space near Markenseplein. For Strandpaviljoen Zuid, enter the dunes at Wieringsestraat and follow the “Strandslag 11” signs.
