MAMMAL HANDS

Saturday 23 March 2019 2019

Music to your ears, that’s exactly what this ”new rising stars from the UK jazzscene” will bring you. The British modern-jazztrio Mammal Hands is on the edge of a breakthrough. After they performed on our Mondriaan Jazz Festival last year, and impressed at i.a. LantarenVenster (”A beautiful impressionistic whole, full of sparkling details coming from the drumkit, compelling ambience spheres and wavy melodylines”) it’s nothing but right that these gentlemen become popular in our country. As the opener for ambient-jazz act GoGo Penguin, whom they share a recordlabel with, the jazz-loving audience can’t avoid this band, as if they would like to.

These men get their inspiration from numerous genres (take an Eastern spiritual music or folk). In addition to the powerful, melodic piano, busy rhythm patterns and melancholy sax, there are plenty of experiments with samples (Irish flute, Indian tablas) to make their hypnotic sound even richer. So the end result is musically diverse, adventurous and regularly moving. 2019 feels really far away.

“ Het was genieten bij Mammal Hands. Met sterke melodieën bouwde het trio zijn stukken op met steeds voller wordende herhalingen, waarna ingenieuze wendingen volgden. “
