LUCAS HAMMING

Thursday 30 March 2017 2017

Whoever still thinks that participating in talent shows is a bad career move, they’re dead wrong. That is, at least, if you possess the amount of talent Lucas Hamming does. Who on earth can release their second record, while already having scored two 3FM Megahits, being crowned the official show band of De Wereld Draait Door –the Dutch equivalent of The Daily Show- and having written the theme song for Serious Request? Lucas Hamming will do!

When competing in the Dutch talent show, ‘The Best Singer-Songwriter’, Lucas immediately stood out: he had an attractive mug with just enough nonchalance to make him look cool. His first single, ‘Never Let You Down’, with that funny little riff in it, surprised many of us and especially those who’ve known him since his ‘I’m-singing-difficult-stuff-while-playing-on-an-acoustic-guitar’-era. (Mind you, this is the way he described his own style to 3VOOR12.) The road he’s been taking recently has turned out to have the right destination. With catchy choruses and likeable riffs, his first album, HAM, has a way stronger indie-pop or rock-sounding vibe to it.

In Lucas’ world is always something happening (and it’s usually right now). The year he was performing at the Pinkpop festival, he released the prestigious theme song for Serious Request (Are You With Me) and a tour will signify the next peek in his career. For Hamming, touring is something quite new and exciting in his still short career as a performing artist, because he does love to play music as often as he can.

The last couple of weeks, the young musician has been retreating at the Gam studio in the Belgian Ardennes, to escape from the daily hustle and bustle of the city, so that he and producer Jurriaan Sielcken could record Hamming’s latest album. ‘It was great how we could focus on our work. It’s going to be a completely different record than my first’, he confirms.

On December 11th last year, Hamming performed at Paradiso, Amsterdam as Hamming XL, which can be viewed as both an early prequel to his upcoming spring tour and still also a one-off show. Hamming was totally feeling it. The show must go on onstage and Paard will be no exception to this.

Yokko
This music demandsits listener’s full and undivided attention: that’s what Yokko’s indie-pop is all about. It’s about escaping the daily routine and immersing yourself in music. The quintet from Switzerland has recently released their second album: ‘To the Fighters. To the Boxers.’ and it manages to mesmerize the listener from the first second to the final fade-out. Every note has been carefully hand-picked and you can hear it. These gentlemen have built an amazing Wall of Sound of which Kensington… no, even Trump should be green with jealousy! They say these guys should be pretty rad live as well…
