Le Butcherettes is a Mexican punkband founded in 2007 by Teri Gender Bender.
The thesis that music has nothing to do with politics has been proven wrong more than once. Le Butcherettes is a clear example of this. The band performs with brooms and bloody aprins, refering to the oppression of women. This message was received in the Mexican underground scene, but was received even better across the borders.
Le Butcherettes already opened for The Dead Weather and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Also, they released several albums.
“The Mexican band Le Butcherettes has followed the trajectory of many brilliant artists of that country: Initially unable to succeed in the impenetrable but influential Mexican music scene, its members went abroad, found success, and are now beginning to find recognition back home.” – NPR Music
