Support: Tini ThomsenKapok is a band that specializes in creating the most unpredictable crossover music that your ears have ever experienced. The amalgam of countless different genres is what forms the band's unique sound. Clear traces of pop and funk can be distilled, even more so when you see their energetic stage performance. The grooves and percussion instruments that are usually found in rootsmusic, are also present in the music of Kapok, and even the abstract soundscapes that are extracted from the free improvisation, as well as jazz are very evident in the songs. To make a long story short: Kapok sounds like everything else and nothing else at the same time. The are continuously trying to surprise the audience with their interesting arrangements, which are even subjected to live improvisation some of the time.“A jazz album full of light, space and imagination … Kapok is an extraordinary fusion of instruments”– NRC Handelsblad“One of the most entertaining Dutch jazz records of the past few years … a masterful jam session, in which great musical finds are spontaneously unearthed … especially during the spacious chamber music one is overwhelmed by beauty” – De VolkskrantThe baritone-saxophone of Tini Thomsen will cause Paard van Troje to tremble like an earthquake has just arrived. This incredible saxophone-player has an aversion to the standard saxophone-sound. Her biggest influences, therefore, are not Gerry Mulligan or Pepper Adams. Instead, she takes most of her musical ideas from bands like Queens of the Stone Age, Foo Fighters, etcetera.#FivoritesWe asked Kapok about five favorite 'dazzling jazz' songs.
