FILM: AUTOLUMINESCENT – A FILM ABOUT ROWLAND S. HOWARD WITH NICK CAVE

Friday 18 October 2013 2013

Rowland S Howard was one of this world’s most ridiculously singular and charismatic individuals in the musical field. He was great and he was flawed, and life tested him again and again, but he arose from times of gloom and adversity to charm and amuse and spark and spin and produce songs and music that came straight from the centre of his being with an honesty and intensity that was bone-deep.  Rowland S. Howard was only sixteen years old when he wrote his first hit "Shivers" for his band called The Birthday Party. His good friend Nick Cave was the singer of this band. After The Birthday Party and These Immortal Souls he decided to go solo. LP 'Pop Crimes' sees the light of day in October 2009, ten years after the release of his first soloalbum. Three months later passes away from cancer. Not long after the tragic end of this legend, the filmmakers Richard Lowenstein and Lynn-Maree Milburn decided to make a 'rockumentary' about Howard's life. Nick Cave, Mick Harvey (the Bad Seeds), Lydia Lunch, Thurston Moore (Sonic Youth), Henry Rollins, Nick Zinner (Yeah Yeah Yeahs) speak about their friend, bandmember and soulmate in the documentary "Autoluminescent" that will premiere on Octobter 18th.
