THE CAVEMEN.

Highlife reborn

Wednesday 25 February 2026

The Cavemen. aren’t just reviving highlife, they’re reshaping it. With ancestral soul and global ambition, the Nigerian-born brothers create music that feels both rooted and radical, as modern torchbearers of highlife, blending tradition with innovation to globalize highlife music. Their sound is a living archive: lush, layered, and steeped in tradition, yet unapologetically forward.
This is highlife, reimagined, re-centered, and reborn.

Their self-produced debut Roots (2020)and follow-upLove and Highlife (2021) cemented their name as modern keepers of the genre. Their music revitalises the genre while honoring tradition. Cavy In The City is a continuation of what fans have grown accustomed to from the duo. True to their roots, The Cavemen.’s music feels fresh without straying from the familiar. Proving that evolution doesn’t always mean departure.

The Cavemen. are cementing their legacy by rewriting highlife’s story. Their approach is simple: make music that speaks to the soul—not trends or turmoil, but the emotions that connect us all. To them, “music is soul food” that can “heal the mind, body, and soul.” As they proclaim, “We see Africa as the center of the world, and what is central to Africa is music.” And they’re certain: “Highlife is what the world needs right now.”

Peter Somuah is a talented trumpeter who learned to play by listening endlessly to his heroes Miles Davis, Freddie Hubbard, and Roy Hargrove. Somuah distinguishes himself with his warm and melancholic sound, as well as his rhythmic dexterity that reflects his upbringing in the musical styles of West Africa. Within his compositions, Somuah explores the boundaries between jazz, funk, soul, and traditional Ghanaian music, with a touch of electronica. He moves his audience and makes them swing!
