SEF

Politically charged tracks with a pop twist

Wednesday 10 December 2025

Sef has long been a cornerstone of the Dutch scene. Since his breakthrough with the megahit De Leven, he has released several solo albums, collaborated with major artists, and won an Edison Award. In 2024, he joined forces with Hang Youth frontman Abel for the album IJsland, leaving a lasting impression with their performances. This summer, he took to the Alpha stage at Lowlands to present his new album lieve monsters. In these dark and uncertain times, Sef manages to give those feelings a powerful voice. Beyond his work as an artist, he is also a creative force in the music industry, involved in countless projects both on and off stage. On December 10, Yousef returns to PAARD — this time with a live band!

About his latest work lieve monsters, and as a follow-up to his Edison-winning album Ik Zou Voor Veel Kunnen Sterven Maar Niet Voor Een Vlag:

In a world overtaken by algorithms, Sef searches for humanity in an overstimulated, technology-dominated society. What is it like to live in a time where humans and machines are increasingly growing closer together? And how do you relate to that? As an artist, but above all, as a human being.

Following his previous politically engaged record, Sef takes a more personal approach on lieve monsters. He observes everything coming at us—both physically and digitally—and sheds light on what he sees. It’s an album led by feeling rather than reason. More accessible, with human emotion as its guiding force.
