Paardcafé: Historian X Van Tastik

Saturday 4 April 2026

HISTORIAN asks the question: what if Jack White had lived in 1940? This musical love letter to the past blends classic Hollywood films, lingering swing, honest blues, and art deco with the modern power of a fuzz rock trio. Led by historian Joris Boerma, Historian breathes life into the style of the 1930s and 1940s in its entirety, with authentic clothing, vintage gear, and a unique sound.

The band takes the listener on a musical history lesson across the stage, seeking confrontation between the past and the present! But Historian is anything but dusty; it’s gritty, dynamic, and full of fresh energy, completely blowing away the layer of antique dust.

VAN TASTIK is an American artist who has traveled the world, gone through hell and back. In addition to his bohemian past, VAN TASTIK was named Best Classic Rock Act of 2021 by WigWam Radio and has performed on stages ranging from BBC Live to Sniester Rock Festival.

After successful tours in Portugal and the United Kingdom in 2022 and a sold-out EU tour with Cam Cole in 2023, the artist’s social media following tripled. This number continues to rise as they announce performances with major American artists and at major EU festivals in 2023, while simultaneously teasing the release of their debut album.

VAN TASTIK’s performances are pure passion and energy. His songs celebrate life’s hardships and create a familiar and unmistakable atmosphere with humor, audience participation, shouting, and stomping, like a kind of forgotten Pentecostal church service. According to them, “The Darkness” doesn’t have to be scary—it’s something in all of us that we must learn to accept and express, and more literally, a dark room where we can celebrate the moment and come together, united by his Dark Delta Blues, Blues Rock, and Southern Gothic Gospel music.
