Psychedelic rock was combined with humor, political criticism, traditional music such as the samba and the popular music of The Beatles and Jimi Hendrix at the time. Even in their absence (from the late 1980s to 2006), the band was a huge inspiration to artists such as Kurt Cobain, David Byrne, The Flaming Lips, Devendra Banhart and Beck.
