OS MUTANTES

SUPERSONIC BLUES

The now legendary Tropicalia band Os Mutantes from Brazil, who became famous in the 1960s, is back in action with a young and steamy line-up. Brothers Arnaldo Baptista (bass, keyboard and vocals) and Sérgio Dias Baptista (guitar and vocals), and singer Rita Lee were at the forefront of a movement that sought to unite music, theatre, avant-garde poetry and other visual and auditory art forms.

Psychedelic rock was combined with humor, political criticism, traditional music such as the samba and the popular music of The Beatles and Jimi Hendrix at the time. Even in their absence (from the late 1980s to 2006), the band was a huge inspiration to artists such as Kurt Cobain, David Byrne, The Flaming Lips, Devendra Banhart and Beck.

Four buddies laying down that heavy, fuzzed-out, psyched-up, blues- based rock n’ soul. No strangers to The Hague’s gritty underground scene, SUPERSONIC BLUES have an unhealthy obsession with diggin’ out that one obscure 60s/70s rarity.
