Jeangu’s debut album High On You (2017) consists of soulful personal songs: a collection of stories about struggle, gratitude, hope and trust; experiences from the life of a young adult. The record is nominated for an Edison Pop in the Best Album category and brings Jeangu and his band to Lowlands and North Sea Jazz. On his second album Horizon (2019), Jeangu presents himself with his head held high. The searching boy has become a self-assured artist, who explores the world driven by curiosity, ambition and zest for life.

At the beginning of 2020, it was announced that Jeangu Macrooy had been selected as the representative of the Netherlands for the Eurovision Songfestival 2020. Unfortunately, the Songfestival, as well as Jeangu’s theater tour scheduled from March to May, would be canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic. But the run-up to the Eurovision Song Contest is already a special journey in itself: Jeangu’s entry Grow was released on March 4, 2020 and received a wave of (inter)national praise.

His new song ‘Birth Of A New Age’ was released on March 4, 2021 for the Eurovision Songfestival. Jeangu: “The song is an ode to everyone who stands up for themselves and dares to celebrate the power of their own authenticity.” The part in Surinam is inspired by an old Odo (saying). In the context of the song it stands for (resilience) strength, empowerment and perseverance.
