Jordao, whose roots lie partly in the Moluccas, 12,500 kilometres from the Netherlands, felt connected to that other side of his story through Latul’s music. What began inside, he now wants to bring out. In this musical matinee performance, “Dari dalam ke-luar I From the inside out”, Jordao takes you on a musical journey of memory and discovery. Together with a 10-piece live band – a mix of top Moluccan and Dutch musicians – he revives the distinctive sound of Yopie Latul for audiences young and old. It will be an ode to one of the greatest Moluccan artists ever and to the generation that grew up with him. Let yourself be carried away by the rhythms, stories and recognition. Come and listen. ‘I’ve never been there, yet this music takes me there.’ These are the words of Jordao Loupatty – musician, band leader and native of Alphen – about the music of Yopie Latul. No traditional Moluccan sounds this time, but the timeless sound of ‘Ambon Jazz Rock’, that iconic cassette tape that brought recognition, nostalgia and celebration to countless Moluccan households in the 1980s.
