Melqui is a band formed in Amsterdam, Netherlands in 2020.
The band comprise of Lautaro Hochman , Siebren Smink, Sara Frances Tompkins, Aniol Torrents and Chen Har-Even.
Melqui has been credited with the crossover of Latin, Indie, and Experimental Music and praised for their singular musical approach reflecting on themes such as identity, self-awareness, belonging, humor, and surrealism.
Melqui released their self-titled EP ‘MELQUI’ in 2022 described as delicate, tranquil, and melancholic. The Latin grooves and vocal cadence in MELQUI pay homage to Lau’s Argentinian and Portuguese musical heritage and draw comparisons to artists such as Devendra Bahnhart and Tim Bernardes.
In 2023, Melqui released their debut LP “ Your Smile, S’il Vous Plaît”. With this album, Melqui toured in the Netherlands with shows at Cinetol, De Nieuw Anita, Paard, Doornroosje, Slimfest, Surfana Fest, Tivoli Vredenburg and Le Guess Who? and with support slots for Erlend Øye and La Comitiva, Cruzando el Charco, Molly Lewis, and Nico Play culminating in a headline release concert at Paradiso Amsterdam.
