ONUKA, literally means “granddaughter,” is an ode to Nata’s grandfather, a man who devoted his entire life to making traditional Ukrainian instruments. The bandura, sopilka and trembita are all traditional Ukrainian instruments that are still unknown to the general public.
ONUKA’s debut EP ‘Look’ appeared in May 2014 and immediately jumped to the # 1 position in the Ukrainian Itunes lists. The album followed in October with the same range in the hit list of Itunes. The band now has more than 4 million views on Youtube and has already won several prizes including ‘Discovery Of The Year’ (Kiss FM, the most popular radio station in Ukraine) and an ‘ELLE Style Award for Musician Of The Year’. On stage, the duo gains a full band that plays keyboards, drums, traditional flute, two trombones, French horn, bandura and other traditional Ukrainian instruments and samplers.
