MONDRIAAN JAZZ FESTIVAL 2021 ANNOUNCES FIRST NAMES

MJAZZ 2021 presents a hybrid edition on October 9 with acts from the edges of jazz and electronica. The poster includes Christian McBride & Jason Moran, KOKOROKO, Yussef Dayes and many more. Ticket sales and registration for livestream from Thursday 20 May at 10:00. Click here for the tickets.

Mondriaan Jazz is the first festival this autumn to present a leading and challenging jazz program, featuring a lot of new work from the lockdown. This year, the festival is working closely with the Finnish trendsetters from We Jazz Records, who curate several shows there. Furthermore, the streaming possibilities of the last edition will also be used this year; visitors can buy tickets to visit the festival as well as sign up to live stream it partially at home for free.

Varied line-up including Christian McBride & Jason Moran, KOKOROKO and Yussef Dayes

The first batch of names already bode well: The festival opens with a curated duo of American jazz royalty bassist Christian McBride and pianist Jason Moran and closes with the only 2021 show by UK jazz-afrobeat sensation KOKOROKO. In between is a full program in which the contemporary edges of jazz and electronica are explored with, among others, Yussef Dayes, John Ghost and Arthur Hnatek SWIMS. Mondriaan Jazz immerses visitors in the Berlin and Helsinki jazz underground, including Y-OTIS and Timo Lassy x Teppo Mäkynen, and surprises with the Dutch debut by UK singer Sasha Keable and the overwhelming Ensamble Grande by Mexican vocalist Fuensanta Méndez.

Hybrid edition can be visited physically and online

In 2020, Mondriaan Jazz was very successful with a very successful fully streamed edition. This year the festival builds on that innovation, resulting in an edition that can be partially visited both physically and digitally. “Mondriaan Jazz stands for daring and guts and that is why we are going for a physical and international edition, where we also want to make optimal use of the streaming possibilities in collaboration with international partners.” said organizer Mike Bindraban.

Part of the festival will be streamed for free in the highest image and sound quality via the websites of Mondriaan Jazz and PAARD, among others. Visitors can visit the PAARD website for tickets and to register for the livestream.
